Regional Meet Start Time Moved To 1:00

After research and due to the consistent reports for the potential of inclement weather on Friday we will be moving the Regional Track and Field Start time to 1:00 p.m.  Rationale is simple:  Friday is the day (due to graduation ceremonies on Thursday and Saturday) that we will get the Regional event run.  We will do everything possible, regarding our goals, to (1) not compromise the quality or integrity of this high profile event, (2) to run this event with the safety of our athletes of utmost concern and (3) to still get the event completed.

As a result of the aforementioned there are a couple of alternatives that we currently will be exploring that we believe would assist in all of the above goals for the Regional Championships:  the possibility of eliminating prelim races and go to time heats as the finals, thus cutting 60-90 minutes from the race time.  This decision will not be made until just prior to the field events on Friday with all head coaches present.(WE WILL MEET AT 12:30 p.m. In the Southeast corner of the track outside of the locker area facilities to determine the status at that time to hold preliminary heats or go right to “timed finals" based off performance sheets.  Whatever is decided at this time is what we will go with, remembering that our decision is for the best in getting the meet completed)

We understand this may be a long afternoon/evening (although it is our hopes the weather is not accurate), but we will have locker area facilities, gymnasiums etc., available if inclement weather should be an issue.

Below is a general time schedule with and without preliminaries:

With Prelims:
Field Events1:00 p.m.
Prelims:2:30 p.m.
Finals:4:00 p.m.
Anticipated End:7:30 p.m.

“Timed Heat” Finals (NO Prelims)
Field Events:  1:00 p.m.
Finals:
2:30 p.m. (Start with 4x800)
Anticipated End:  7:30 p.m.

In either case we will very likely be running a rolling schedule.
